2024-2025 Valentine’s Massacre: A format not for the faint of heart!

Thanks to some last-minute adjustments needed to account for the rainy weather we have had over the past few weeks, we were able to shift this year’s Valentine’s Massacre from Golf de Falunee to the Royal Golf Club of Hainaut.  The course at Falunee was simply to wet to play which is a shame as it is an excellent venue.  We will plan on playing it again in early 2027.  The Secretariat at RGCH was able to work with us and managed to fit us in.  Thanks again to the leadership at RGCH who always go out of their way to support the NATO Golf Club.

The Valentine’s Massacre is always a challenging format in which golfers are teamed up in groups of two.  The twist to this team format is that the group must play from the worst drive of the two players, after that it is a classic best ball format.  We once again had a strong showing with 11 of our members playing this weekend and all had a good time.  The day started off a bit frigid but temperatures warmed up quickly.  The increased participation we have seen during these past few events bodes well for the viability of our club.

The overall team winners for the day were Martin Sonnenberger and Steve White.  Both are on a roll and occupy first and second place respectively.  The margins are still close for the rest of the group, you still have time to catch them!

Second place for the team event were Arvid Halvorsen and Jeff Smith, their approach to the Massacre was to simply swing hard…  Thankfully it paid off this time!

Long hitter of the day was Jon Gunther who smashed a tremendous drive on hole #11.

Closest to the pin went to Ramon Miranda who proved to be able to navigate the winter greens very well with a great shot on hole #12.

Our next event is a Friendly at Royal Bercuit Golf Club on 8 March.  For those that have not yet played this course you are in for a treat.  Royal Bercuit is the only Robert Trent Jones designed course in Belgium and is very enjoyable to play.  We hope to have another strong showing in March.

Thanks to all that joined today and thanks to all members for your continued support to our club.
